All great ideas usually begin with wanting to resolve the frustration of inadequate solutions.
Not having a suitable, lightweight, easy to pull trailer to haul all of our stuff was the original frustration that sparked the concepts for our product line. If you look at trailers in general, they are usually very heavy. Most require a truck or large SUV to be able to pull them efficiently and they really hurt your gas mileage.
We felt that there was a very good market for a line of trailers that were designed to be pulled behind today’s smaller cars, which would place almost no load on the vehicle; yet allow you to take all of your stuff and free up the interior space of your vehicle, for even more stuff!
We had the basic concepts for these products in mind for a number of years but were too busy with other businesses to be able to react properly to develop a good product. In 1999, we sold our other business and were ready to roll up our sleeves and get to work. We started by conducting an extensive patent search to see if our ideas could be protected by patents, and found that our thinking was ahead of others and that we could, in fact, pursue a number of patents on our various concepts for new products.
After about a year of analysis, we decided that these concepts were right on target for the future growth that we saw in the burgeoning sports and recreation markets. We formed a corporation and started our product development. This product development has continued since our beginning and is still going on with the addition of new products as opportunities unfold for us.
Like most new ventures, we started in a two car garage, developing our initial product ideas, building prototypes, testing them, modifying our designs, and retesting until we got it right. Not all of our product concepts really made it to the market for one reason or another. Some were too expensive to build, some just didn’t work right, and some didn’t make our market test criteria.
