As the nearest old car clubs were in Cape Town and Port Elizabeth, it was decided by several enthusiasts in George to start a club in this area. A group of nine old car owners and enthusiasts held an inaugural meeting on 3 June 1988, and so the Southern Cape Old Car Club was born. A sum of R35 was collected to cover initial stationery and postage costs!
Under the auspices of the Eastern Province Veteran Car Club to begin with, the club held monthly outings for the ever-growing number of members. Soon we were accepted by SAVVA and became an independent club. Our constitution was drafted and sent to members, and plans were made to design a club logo. Annelise Bezuidenhout submitted the winning design in a competition amongst members.
The newsletter was called "The Spanner", and was distributed regularly as were monthly notices detailing outings and events. The most popular of events was the sponsored annual Delta Rally.
