Previous to 1937, a small group of dealers conceived the idea that Georgia automobile dealers should have a state organization. These dealers "outlined the legislative work done by the Atlanta Automobile Association and how much more effective work could be made with the help of a state-wide group."
On April 21, 1937, a group of dealers from various parts of the state met in Macon for the first time with the idea of forming a state association.
Through the hard work of many dealers, the association grew in size and strength, and on January 1, 1966, became self-sustaining after working in conjunction with the Atlanta Automobile Association.
Today GADA has over 600 members who represent over 90% of the new vehicles sold in Georgia, and is considered one of the most respected trade associations in Georgia. GADA, partnered with its subsidiary, GADA Services, Inc., offers title service, business forms, educational seminars and workshops, resume service, and a lobbying voice for Georgia's dealers in addition to providing a workers' compensation program and consumer action panel (AUTOCAP).
It is gratifying to note that many of the goals adopted by the first Board of Directors have now been achieved, proving again that, "united effort is the most effective human tool known to man."
