DriveŽ began as the realization of an idea from a group of entrepreneurs within the auto industry. This group gained experience working in finance in auto dealerships. In 1995, the team became organized as The Brower Group and left the dealerships to focus their attention on the banking side of the industry. As a sub-originator, new company marketed the auto finance programs of various banks and again gained valuable perspective on the industry.
The success of the company caught the attention of FirstCity Financial, and in 1997 the two groups merged, forming FirstCity Funding, a sub-prime auto finance company with a unique business model serving a niche market.
The result was extraordinary. In less than 18 months, the company grew 350 percent and again drew attention - this time from FirstCity Financial's largest investor group, HBOS plc. In 2000, another transaction was completed, and FirstCity Funding officially became Drive Financial Services. The stability and strength of HBOS plc allowed DriveŽ to surpass expectations and continue its phenomenal growth.
