Plug In America formed to focus advocacy for plug-in transportation following several activism campaigns with major automakers. Since 2004 actions with Plug In America members have resulting in saving approximately 1000 of the 5000 production electric cars originally put on the from being reclaimed and destroyed by Automakers.
In September 2004 the Ford Norway headquarters was taken over by Greenpeace. 300 Th!nk City electric cars were SAVED! On Kyoto Protocol Day, February 16, 2005, and using the name SaveEV1.org, we began a 24-hour vigil outside of a GM facility in Burbank, to protect that last remaining 78 EV1 cars from being destroyed. After nearly one month of round the clock vigil, GM hauled away all of the cars in transports, to the GM Mesa, AZ Proving Grounds.
DontCrush.com/RangerEV, January 2005 Rancher Dave Raboy & JumpstartFord spearhead successful vigil; 150 Ranger EV electric pickups SAVED! Ford ends crushing; Leaseholders win purchase rights.
On June 1, 2005 DontCrush.com began a campaign to align Toyota with public opinion that all-electric cars should be kept on the road. Linda Nicholes and Howard Stein became spokespersons for DontCrush and told the story of how perfectly good, emissions-free, all-electric cars were being taken out of service and destroyed. Growing support from people all over the US - youth, elected officials, fleet owners, environmental advocates, and people like you, who want sustainable, clean transportation options - combined into a common voice that said "Stop crushing cars, keep them on the road."
