The Formation of the Association was the outcome of a meeting held on December 15, 1924, at the Jamaica Institute, "to consider the reorganization of the defunct Jamaica Motor Club and to dispose of its surplus assets."
At the meeting the following officers were elected: Sir A. W. Farquharson as President, and
Mr. J. H. Cargill as Vice President.
The draft rules were presented by an appointed committee to the membership which by May 1925 totalled 268. The rules were adopted. His Excellency the Governor was made Patron of the Association. The Association was affiliated to the Royal Automobile Club of London on June 9, 1925.
The JAA was also affiliated to the worldwide Association, Alliance Internationale de Tourisme (AIT) Headquartered in Geneva Switzerland and Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). The AIT and FIA merged in 2005 with the FIA heading the worldwide Association.
