These videos are produced by Rick Higgins, his two sons Chad and Wade, his daughter Holly, his wife Linda, and his good friend Rodney Carr, and whatever other V. W. friends that drop by during filming and editing. Rick's interest in the V. W. beetle began in 1955 when the foreign car dealership his stepfather worked in took on the VW. Rick spent his summers and weekends helping his stepfather at the dealership, things were not nearly as strict in those days. His stepfather had a single cab pickup truck as a demo and often drove a bug home. Rick learned to drive in the pickup a few years later. In 1962 when Rick graduated high school he went to work at what was now a VW.only dealership. In 1963 Rick left the dealership to work with a Volkswagen mechanic who had his own independent Volkswagen garage. Rick went to work for him working 12 hours a day six and seven days a week to keep up with all the work. Here he had the opportunity to learn much from Carl Merkle,a young German car mechanic whose father owned one of the first Volkswagen dealerships in Germany.In 1966 when Rick's employer moved his business to Florida from Indiana Rick started his own Volkswagen shop which grew to be one of the largest independent Volkswagen garages in Indiana. It included a body shop, a small Volkswagen salvage yard, a large parts department, a dune buggy franchise, a formula V. shop, and a large service department.
In the early '70s when Volkswagen was desperately trying to compete with Toyota and was moving toward water cooled front wheel drive cars, Rick sold his shop and moved to Fort Myers, Florida where he has continued his love affair with the air cooled Volkswagen buying, fixing, selling, restoring, collecting, and playing with them to this day.
Many older Volkswagen owners, that's older Volkswagens not necessarily owners, drop by Rick's to ask advice on how to care for their bugs and he is pleased to help them all he can. This is where he recognized the need for an instructional video. So he got together with his friend Rodney Carr a former television cameraman who was starting his own video production business, Carr Cam Productions. They produced volume 1 which was a general maintenance video and advertised it in "Hot VWs" and" VW Trends". It was well accepted with most buyers calling to order volume 2 before it was even shot.
Volume 2 was finished in October and Rick has vowed to continue the series until every repair that can be done to a Volkswagen is covered in a video.
