Automobile LCDs designed for reliable function despite difficult lighting conditions and temperature extremes
9th June, 2006
Equipped with Sharp Microelectronics' developments such as Super Mobile Technology, the company's 6,5" (16,5 cm) LQ065T9DZ01 and 8,8" (22,3 cm) LQ088H9DZ01 TFT displays guarantee a constantly high image quality and a wide viewing angle despite changing brightness levels in the environment, according to Sharp.
In addition, these displays are extremely temperature resistant to both heat and cold. These qualities make the TFTs ideal for use in automobile applications such as navigation and entertainment systems, as well as in many industrial environments.
Super Mobile Technology combines the advantages of a high reflection TFT with the performance of a back-lit transmissive TFT, offering good display readability. An anti-reflection coating also minimises disturbing surface reflections. The Mobile ASV Technology increases the viewing angle to up to 160°, without the image reversing into a negative image. The TFTs offer a 'wide-screen' picture format of 16:9 or 8:3 with (400 x RBG) x 240 or (640 x RGB) x 240 pixels and have a 262 144 colour display.
The 16,5 cm and 22,3 cm TFTs can withstand temperatures from -40 to 85°C in the off mode. The working temperature range lies between -30 and +85°C. This is also an advantage in the industrial sector, where displays are often exposed to heat. Thanks to the 'self-heating backlights', the company says that these TFTs rapidly reach their maximum brightness after a 'cold start' at temperatures below zero degrees. They are especially insensitive to jolts and vibrations due to the chip-on-glass technology - another important aspect for the trouble-free use of TFTs in automobiles or in mobile industrial machines.
