Mazda's new branch office in Beijing
5th November, 2007

A Mazda Motor Corp. unit in Shanghai that oversees Mazda's Chinese operations said Monday it has established a branch office in Beijing to supervise the Japanese automaker's sales network in the country.

Mazda Motor (Shanghai) Business Management & Consulting Co. decided on the move as it sees a need to promote a unified marketing strategy for the Mazda brand in the nation before the company adds a new sales channel in January next year.

For sales of Mazda cars assembled at Changan Ford Mazda Automobile Co. in Chongqing, Mazda set up in April this year a new company, Changan Mazda Motor Sales Corp., which is scheduled to start operating after the turn of the year.

Through the new unit and its existing sales firm, FAW Mazda Motor Sales Co., Mazda will aim to achieve annual sales of 300,000 units in China in 2010.

As part of its efforts to boost sales in the nation, Mazda is considering raising its equity stake in FAW Mazda Motor Sales to 40 pct from the current 25 pct, according to Mazda officials.

This year, Changan Ford Mazda Automobile started operating an engine plant and a vehicle plant, both in Nanjing.

In late October, the vehicle plant kicked off production of the Mazda 2, known as the Demio in Japan. The Mazda 5, known as the Premacy in Japan, will become available in China in December via shipments from Japan.
